The Mahlstedt Curse is a long running joke. Somehow, all the Mahlstedt boys have bad luck when it comes to getting hurt. This started when my dad was growing up...my Uncle Jimmy was always getting hurt....when I was growing up it was Kevin...constantly getting hurt...I think my dog maybe picking up that curse.
On Thursday night he came running inside after being out for about 10 minutes and had a HUGE gash on his arm. Huge meaning that it went through all his skin so you could see the muscle fibers and it was about the size of a golf ball. It was nasty. So I rush him up to one of the local vets that happened to be open at 6pm at night!
While there I had them check out his ears. Although they don't bother him, I've been telling Russell for a couple weeks that I needed to get him up to the vet and have them checked out. They were just waxy and kinda smelly. I told the vet I thought I needed to purchase some good ear cleaner. He took one look and said "That's gonna take more then cleaner!"
So, Charlie left the vet with 10 stitches in his leg, a yeast infection in both ears, a bacterial infection in both ears and an entire pharmacy. He has 1 set of ear drops each morning, a different prescription in the evening, an anti-inflammatory, a pain killer and an antibiotic.
Then Friday, I thought it looked like he had taken a couple stitches out...back to the vet we went. Turns out he's fine...just the way it's healing. But while there she noticed a cut on his eye. Somehow he sliced his eyelid....so we came home with another eye medication!...but his stitches were okay!
So...we go back in 2 weeks to have the stitches taken out. For the next 2 weeks, I'm supposed to keep Charlie calm.....for those who know Charlie...that's like telling sugar to not be sweet! I think he has ADD. So, he's been spending lots of time snuggling us, laying in his kennel....and looking outside wanting to go run and play. It might be a long 2 weeks!
