Soon to be a Quilter

I registered today for a Beginner Quilting class at the local quilt shop, the Wild Rose. It's like 2 blocks away...so VERY convienient. I'm wondering how out of place I will feel? Will there be other people my age? Or are they all going to be a lot older?

I hadn't really thought about quilting. But I mentioned to my Grandma that I wanted to find Hallie a girly quilt for her room. My Grandma told me she has quilting squares that were made by HER grandmother, they have never been finished into a quilt. But she told me I could have them if I wanted to make Hallie a quilt. I JUMPED at the chance.....I'm a very sentimental person and besides that...being able to finish a project that my Great-Great-Grandmother started is just amazing....seriously amazing.

I really don't feel comfortable using quilting squares that are probably over 100 years old to make a quilt for a 4 year old...but I'm going to make a quilt to hang on the wall. I even have a spot picked out already. Just think about how many generations of women have handled those quilt squares...and how much time has gone by for them to end up in my hands.

I wonder if my Great-Great-Grandmother ever had the thought cross her mind that those quilt squares she spent time on would someday end up in the hands of her Great-Great-Grandaugher?

So...my project for the next couple weeks...well month or so...pull out my sewing machine and start playing around. I want to be sure I know the ins and outs of it.

No worries...I'm not learning on those quilt squares....they have a quilt for us to make...I'll post a photo when I get one. I'll work on thsoe quilt squares once I feel confident enough to not screw them up!
