Later in the evening, 10:30ish, I walked in the kitchen and caught a whiff of gas. I asked Russell if he had smelled it. He said he had thought he smelled it earlier, but then couldn't find the source.
I decided to call Puget Sound Energy, just to be safe. They told me that with gas they send someone out right away. I figured, since it was 10:30 at night, that right away would be at like 8am the next day. Nope. They came out that night at 11:30pm.
Sure enough, the gas line going from the source to the oven had a crack in it and sure enough it was leaking gas! Luckily, it was a small amount that was non-hazardous.
He disconnected the line, and sealed it off until we could get a new line (which we did the next day).
I learned a few things though:
- The odor of gas is super strong, so it takes hardly any gas at all to smell it.
- It takes a TON of gas for it to ever be harmful.
- Gas is usually only harmful in small, confined spaces.
- PSE will come out any time, 24 hours a day, free of charge, to check on your gas.
