The tree in our yard is this dainty little thing. It's not my favorite...but it's always been there. Bees have always liked it...just not as much as they did this weekend!
We were out and about and my phone rings. It's Brooke, our old neighbor who had moved to Idaho. She was calling because the neighbors didn't know how to get ahold of us, but knew her number. She said they were saying we had bees building a nest in our front tree. Uhhh..okay. I didn't think to much of it...we'll just take care of it tonight. Until I saw this.
You see, that's not a hive. That's SOLID BEES! Apparently, a swarm was moving and decided to stop and rest for the day on our tree. When I say there were 10,000 bees....that's really no exaggeration! It was amazing! What appears to be a growth on the side of the tree is no growth at all. It's all the bees piled together! If you can click and make the top picture bigger, you might be able to see the 100's upon 100's of bees in the air. Then suddenly, later in the afternoon it looked like a tornado was in my front yard. All these bees swarmed off the tree and went on their merry way.
