He is a very hyper dog, so I figured he was running off all his food.
Well, Monday the cops show up at our house. Someone called in a report saying that we were neglecting Charlie, he was too skinny, and we left him outside for extended lengths of time in this freezing cold.
The cop came inside and gathered all his information. Of course, the dogs were inside when he got here. He asked about shelter outside and we told him the dogs didn't need one because they lived inside with us. He was a bit taken back by that. He took pictures of Lucy, Charlie, their kennel and their food. We told him that the dogs were not left outside in this cold, they only went out to go to the bathroom or when they got hyper to run it off. He said that it appeared that the dogs were taken care of and loved so he considered his case closed.
I decided to call the receptionist at the police station to see if I needed to write up something stating what food we fed them and that we know Charlie is skinny and see if they wanted his vet records. The receptionist was VERY accusatory, and again accused us of mistreating our dogs...even though the cop had already been to our home. She told me that I needed to take Charlie to the vet and have the vet write a letter stating that he was healthy and taken care of. So, here just about 2 weeks before Christmas we head to the vet.
The vet came in and right away said he was not a lab at all. She said he was a German Shorthaired Pointer.
Here's Charlie:
Here's an internet picture of a pointer:
Those pictures SCREAM Charlie! The vet also said that because he appears to be a pointer, he will stay skinny until about age 3. It's just how they grow. And, he's PERFECTLY healthy!
I kinda want to blow the vet's letter up to semi-truck size and paste it on my fence. We took great offense to someone thinking we would be mistreating our dogs.
