Russell has been really unhappy at his job for a while now. He's been searching for other ideas...as have I. Nothing really grabs his attention.
The other night I was thinking about it and suggested Nursing. When I met Russell way back when, he was contemplating Medical School. Life happened, and he decided it was too much time away to commit to Med School. Something in the medical field is right up his alley.
So today I went to the local community college to investigate some possibilities. He's eligible for a federal grant, which means we won't have to pay for just about any of his classes....which is a PLUS! He went tonight to enroll in a couple classes hoping the instructors would let him in...no such luck because it's a week into the quarter. BUT, we did find out about a Psychology class he needs that has open enrollment, so he will be able to take that. Taking one class is better then taking no class! And, it's online...so he'll be able to do it all from our very own dining room table.
He has several classes to take...he'll probably spend the next 3 quarters or so doing pre-req classes and then start applying to nursing schools. The hardest part is going to be the 2 years he's in nursing school. He'll have to go to school full time, so he won't be able to work. He will end up working at night and the weekends...and I'll work on increasing daycare clients. But, we both know some of those sacrifices will all be worth it in the end. He wants to get his RN license....go on to get a BSN....and then get his Master's to become a Nurse Practitioner...which is practically a doctor....who knows...maybe he'll decide on Med School! We'll see what life holds!
