Nathan's Trip to the ER

Russell and I spent all last night into the wee hours of the morning in the ER with Nathan. He thought it was a good idea to put a screw about an inch long in his mouth. I told him to spit it out...he told me no and promptly swallowed it. So I took him to Good Sam. After spending a few hours there they transferred us to MaryBridge. Normally they just let stuff kids swallow pass on its own. The concern was that the head of the screw was too large to pass from his stomach to his intestine. The xray showed it was still in his stomach. Good Sam transferred us because they wanted us to have a pediatric GI specialist..Dr. Yuwana. We got down to MaryBridge and they promptly got us an ER room. The pediatrician, nurses and specialist all came in and explained to us how they get it out. They pretty much put him under and literally go fish it out. After him being under about an hour and them fishing around, they did another xray. They found that in the process of inflating his stomach with air and fishing around, the screw had been able to pop through the valve into the intestine. So now we just have to wait for it to pass...and get another xray on Monday. What an ordeal. Here's the shocking xray....you can clearly see the screw in that tiny body
